Question

Hi, I'm running an old Packard Bell & lately when I start it up in the morning I've been getting 2 warnings 1)this programs run time too long(or something like that) 2) This program has preformed an illegal operation. I've checked for spyware, adware, & viruses, & there aren't anydetected, I've also have all the latest updates for my systems programs & have done a disk cleaning, thourough disk scan and defragmenting. What might be the problem? One more question, time to time when I start it up it's quite noisy, and after 10 to 15 min. it goes back to normal. Could this just be the fan needs cleaning? Thank you

Answer

Regarding your first issue. Often this issue is caused by a program that is either already loaded or attempting to be executed that is unable to open because of a program error. To resolve this issue you will need to determine first what program it is that is taking to long to open and check for updates for that program and install them and/or reinstall the program.

For the illegal operation issue it sounds like you have done many of the suggestions we could offer you. It's possible that this issue could also be attributed to the first issue you're encountering therefore you may want to see if after resolving that issue this issue would be correct. Next, if that does not resolve your issue because illegal operations can be caused by so many different things we suggest you go through the below document which gives recommendations to locating the cause of the issue and resolving it.

Finally, regarding your question about the noises, which can be also a cause to the above issues (computer overheating). Often a loud whining or grinding noise is a noise caused by a fan failing. Unfortunately cleaning a fan will not fix this issue. Instead you will need to find which fan is causing this issue and replace it with a new fan.
