Question

hi there
i dont know a lot about computers so thank you for trying to helping.
my mother in law cant view photos from a cd i sent her.
i was hoping that i could download windows media player and burn a copy and send that to her to load on her computer.
When i try to download windows media it goes ahead and installs it for me. i dont want to install it on my computer in New York - i want to burn it and send it to my mother in law in florida for her to open and install on hers.
My mother in law knows less about computers than i, so you see the jam we are in:(
thanks again

Answer

Viewing images off a CD should not be an issue with most computers today. However, it's possible that you're saving the images in a format that her computer does not support. Our first recommendation is to make sure the files are being saved as a .GIF or a .JPG file format. These two image file formats are supported with every computer today and should be viewable on hers as well.

You can determine if the images are being saved as this file format by right-clicking one of the images and clicking properties. Within properties see if the file name ends with .JPG or .GIF and/or that the file type is GIF image or JPG(JPEG) image.

If the files are not in this type of format you should considering saving them in this file format with the program you are using to save these images.

If the files are in either of these formats you may want to see what happens when she is opening these files. Often you will receive a prompt to choose a program to use to open these files. If the file is a .GIF or .JPG you can select Internet Explorer, which is installed on all Windows computers as an Image viewer.

Finally, Windows Media player is actually a video player and not a still image or photo player. Therefore you should not need to send her this program. It's likely she already has it installed.

Hope this helps.
