CHID: 5642

Question

I schedule my Norton Anti-Virus software to run almost on a daily basis. The past few times the scan completed, a file has been detected that Norton doesn't seem to want to repair/delete. The program is called sysdetect.dll found in c:\windows\temp\altnet\pmfiles.cab. I was able to locate this file, however, is it necessary for me to delete this or will that action cause further damage to my computer? I ask because my computer didn't even allow access to this folder before I had to override the protection measure.

Answer

Altnet is often bundled with Kazaa and is considered a Spyware program. You should be able to delete this file with no further damage to your computer. However, because this is a program bubled with Kazaa it's possible it may no longer work after you delete this file.

In addition any files that are in the Windows temp directory are almost always safe to delete.
