CHID: 5657Question
About a month ago, I bought a CD drive for my computer. When I installed it, it caused my computer not to run POST on startup. The fans ran, the light came on, but that was it. No monitor action, no beeps... nothing. I found your website, and tried all the tips on troubleshooting the problem...none of them worked, so I resigned myself to buying a new motherboard, processor, and hard drive. Now I've put that all together, and still I get nothing. Someone on the forum suggested checking my video card, but that was fine. I'm at my wits end. Can you help me?
Answer
If the computer is getting a NO POST, which is when the computer is not beeping when it is starting up unfortunately it is a hardware component in the computer that is causing your issue and honestly it could be any number of things. Because you have a new motherboard, processor, and hard disk drive you could use these parts to help verify that they are not the cause of the issue. What you may want to try first is to just get the computer to POST, what I find easiest to do is remove all non-essential components, for example just try to get the post with Motherboard, CPU, and Power Supply. Nothing else. Just keep eliminating hardware until you can determine what component is causing the no-post.
Additionally you may want to review the below NO POST troubleshooting document.
