Question

I'm trying to run xbox live through my computer and i don't have an ethernet port. To fix this I bought a usb to ethernet adaptor and tried to run ICS, unfortunately i have aol 9 and its rather complicated but i was wondering do i need any other requirements. For example do i need a network card or do i already have one. I nearly got it working as the ip address was found and the dns but it wouldn't connect to xbox live. Please explain this issue to me, i'm not very famaliar in networking with computers
thank you

Answer

Unfortunately we are not that familiar with the Xbox, but we are familiar with networking, so hopefully that will be enough. Reguarding your question about having a network card. Many computers today do come with an onboard network card so it's possible you may already have a network card, however if you do not have a Ethernet port on the back of your computer you do not have a network card. But if your Xbox is getting a IP address that indicates that it is getting a connection with your Xbox and you should not need a network card because you're establishing a network connection through the USB instead of the Ethernet(Network Card).

If your not getting connected to Xbox live, but the Xbox is connecting to your computer it's likely that it's an issue with AOL and/or the computer not being connected to the Internet when attempting to connect to Xbox live.
