Question

This is really a very good helpful site. I have a problem.
when i tried to run set up on my existing windows 98 operating system an error message showed that it cannot run setup because of compressed volume or disk-cache utility. i have read the solution in this site but as suggested i cannot break or format the partition as i have some important data there too. how can i run the setup without removing partition. hope to hear soon. Thanks and wish to flourish this site.

Answer

If the drive is compressed I'm unaware of anyway to bypass the Microsoft warning message. Windows is not designed to be installed on a compressed drive. If the information you have on the hard disk drive is critical I suggest you backup the drive and then run the format and install Windows. Otherwise you will not be able to perform the setup.
