August 28, 1996 - Sierra Semiconductor Corporation today announced its intention to exit from the modem business to focus on its existing Networking and Infrastructure semiconductor business.

June 9, 1997 - Sierra Semiconductor today announced a name change for the corporation PMC-Sierra, Inc.. The trading symbol for the company that is publicly traded on NASDAQ National Market, will also change from "SERA" to "PMCS."
