« on: September 01, 2010, 08:01:18 AM »

For the month of September, we thought it would be fascinating to see what everyone's Internet connection speed is and maybe give everyone a place to brag about their Internet connection or envy others fast connections. If you want to test your Internet speed, I suggest using Speedtest. In addition to voting about your Internet connection speed feel free to post your results like my below example.

Other links for testing your Internet connection

All past monthly polls and results can also be found on the Computer Hope poll page.

Oddly, Calum and I are both on Virginmedia cable, but my speed test showed my ISP as "Telewest Broadband", a name which has been obsolete for quite a while, Feb 2007 to be exact.

I got .69 down and .25 up

It really sucks being on the west coast of Africa but, in a little over a week I will be home and if I can remember will test again from there.

Were you with Telewest before the changeover?  Just curious, that may explain it but I'm not sure how Virgin Media's merges with NTL and Telewest affected their network structure so it may have nothing to do with it.

My speeds are fine, no one in the household does anything intensive with it.. The only time it gets to be a problem is when my brother starts downloading games through steam and playing with his friend at the same time..

Then everything comes to a crawl and I get pissed off.  ;D

At least the school wireless has some decent speeds.

speed fluctuates between 10mb/s up to even 50mb/s. Such is the nature of Cable internet (as well as the low upload speed)

This is my internet connection speed, although in my country I could have more (a lot more speed). But it would be too expensive for me.
Portugal is currently ranked 14th position in the world's average internet speed connection (http://www.netindex.com/download/allcountries/).
Not bad for a small country like ours.

I used to have Verizon DSL, but switched to Comcast Cable several weeks ago. It may not be the fastest connection, but it sure is faster than DSL.

For Comcast, that's somewhat slow on the download, pretty good on the upload.

In the poll, four people voted for 100+ Mbs, but nothing was posted about actual speeds.  I am curious if those speeds were real, or some one misunderstood the question, or just voted that way as a joke.

Thanks, C-C , so it is available somewhere, some place. When you're in a location as I am(with no other feasible choices) that cannot even maintain 1 Mbs download, this just seems unfathomable, realizing that I'm paying much for what I'm receiving. overthehill

The entire Comcast network will be DOCSIS 3.0 by the end of this year.  You pay extra for the faster speeds.

I ran the test from Comcast that you recommended. I got much better results than last time.

I've actually run several speed tests since I switched a couple weeks ago. Each time I've gotten better results than before.
