Remember to only install one antivirus!

1) Avast! Home Edition
2) AVG Free Edition
3) Avira AntiVir Personal
4) Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows Vista\Windows 7 - 64 bit Download
4-a) Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP
5) Comodo Antivirus (Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" if you choose this one)
6) PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

NOD 32 is pretty good.

AVG 2011 Free is pretty good.  Use that on my main rig.
I also use MalwareBytes for malware and it also removes some trojans.

AVG is a good free anti-virus program but can tax your system resources. Most computers running Windows XP currently have a fraction of the memory that newer computers do. Two other alternatives are Avast! Anti-Virus and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Avast! Anti-Virus does not tax system resources as much as AVG Anti-Virus. Microsoft Security Essentials comes from Microsoft foray into the free anti-virus/spyware market. Like Avast! Anti-Virus it is lightweight but Microsoft Security Essentials does leave some questions open with regards to its effectiveness.

I would also recommend installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a general virus/spyware/adware scanner in addition to a real time anti-virus program.

Some ISP providers now provide free security suites call and ask your internet tech support if they do. Might be a good place to start for an all around free one until you decide.

Go for the best only:-

1) Bitdefender
2) Kaspersky

P.S. You  might have to pay for them...after their 30 day trial

For the same reason somebody might decide to pay for an operating rather then get one for free.

did you  mean operation  ;)  if you did , free operations are as good if not better than a paid one , my friend paid for about 7 or 8 operations over this past 10 years , he died 6 weeks ago.

but lets not go of topic any more  ;D

I'm with you
But if you use the computer is not connected with the Internet. And get updates by another computer. I advise you to use  Avira AntiVir
Personal - Free because you can get updates periodically. And a short time interval. It also has a large database

Quick heal gives online protection.

Half of the reviews i've read say otherwise -

http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=Quick+heal&btnG=Google+Search#sclient=psy&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=8iW&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&q=Quick+heal+reviews&aq=0&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=Quick+heal+reviews&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=de610b7113b09eab

Out of 10 reviews on the first page, 4 people say its rubbish, i'm not saying it is, but i would not go for it!

Don't be silly, reddevilggg, everybody knows that spam posts never promote spyware or malware infested products, and they always promote good, honest programs.  :P
