Don't Stop Believin'!!

« on: August 23, 2005, 02:11:52 AM »

Just yesterday my PC decieded that it didn't want to download any mpeg files from the net. It tells me that it is requesting new codec and then I get an error message "invalid class string". I have good antivirus and anti-spyware so it isn't because of that and I uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Media Player with no results. HELP

You may be blocking Windows Media Player with a firewall.

That's mistake number one so far.

Does this occur to all .MPEG files?

Have you removed Codecs?

It appears to occur with all mpeg files. I have not removed codecs. How do I do that?

You might want to try downloading a codec pack such as DivX

Please educate me. Is downloading a codec pack like DivX a way to remove all codecs? What function or solution will it perform or provide?

It will install Codecs that you may need to watch .MPEG files and others.

Raptor,
If I go to DivX.com I only see a bundle pack that includes the DivX player which I already have and a DivX Pro codec. Is that what you are referring to?

I'll be back. ;)

If you have allready tried installing DivX player (Which contains additional codecs) you can try restoring the computer to a point where the problem did not yet occur. It is not something I would try, but it might work.
