linking fields in a form?

I'm using dreamweaver or straight html.  I'm trying to have a drop down box greyed out unless a user puts information into a different field.  

Use a listbox but make the visibility hidden untill the other field is filled out.  Set the other field to make the listbox visibility=show (or something like that).
