     ???

Is there any way  i can create an auto updated text file of my computer's ip address and have it in dropbox?
I'm trying to connect to my computer via a remote connection app on my android - "Xtralogic Remote Desktop" and setting a static IP doesn't work
on my router for some reason, i tried and tested it. So i was wondering if i could keep a text file in my dropbox that i could access from my phone
that has my ip address of my computer so i can enter it into the app whenever i want to use it via 3G.

It would help if you could provide a a link that explains what the android application does and what information it needs.

You are likely using a four byte IP address. Also called IPv4 and is being replaced on the Internet.

There is some confusion about IP address. At present, an IP address is not a persistent identifier for anything on the Internet. On a LAN the IP address is used to locate another device on the LAN, but not the Internet.

Please provide more information. There a re many volunteers here ready to help.

The app can connect to your computer remotely via wifi or 3G and you can control your computer with the app on your phone. You can see the desktop itself and control the mouse and all that. It asks for your ip address and a username and password to your computer. in the online tutorial it talks about switching to static ip so that you dont have to keep entering a new one whenever you use the app. It says you have to go to whatismyip.com and put that ip address into the app for it to connect to you computer. I did this and it worked fine. Even worked on 3G after i opened a couple ports in my router, but my ip address kept changing even after i made it static. So i was wondering if i could just open dropbox whenever i was on the go on my phone, and look at a text file that has my ip address in it; i was wondering if there was some kind of code or something that can copy my ip address into this text file every couple hours.

      Hope that helps:)

So you can make it work, but you have o update the IP address.  You can ask you provider to give you a persistent address. Every time you log off or turn off your PC, you lose the lease on the IP address. Like I said, currently IPs are not persistent. Unless you get your ISP to help.

Yes, you can have a program on your PC that will from time to time find your internet IP and send nit to a mailbox.

There are commercial programs that do it all for you. At a price.  But there are some free ones. As you know, the issue is finding the new IP after it changes

Here is some information that may help.

What you need to know is that the IP address your router sees on the LAN is not the address you have on the Internet. Only your service provider can make it persistent. The work-around is a program that  gets the info and sends it to a drop-box or mailbox account.

Forgot to mention that Microsoft has a lot of information about how remote desktop works. But it does not have the specific info for using an Android.

The link above has many links to other places, with links to even  non-Microsoft products. Some free.

Sorry about the unbeliavably late reply, I gave up and completely forgot I posted this thread, but your information has me rethinking these kinds of apps and how I can use them. So thank you geek for helping:)
