You make me sick.

I'm currently waiting for 3 Ireland to get back to me after making a formal complaint Wednesday last week. I should be getting a minimum of 1.6Mbps DL (max of 6.8 Mbps) and a minimum upload speed of 1.2Mbps (max of 4Mbps). They have until tomorrow to reply before the National Consumer Agency steps in. I've also emailed the Department of Communications and various MEPs in Europe. Why? Thankfully where my house is located is part of the National Broadband Scheme, which is 50% funded by Europe. I hope they're glad to see they're money is well spent. LINKY

National radio is looming...

BTW, my ping is not usually as good at this time of night. Usually I can't even play Battlefield or CoD because the ping is often in the area of 300-500 ms.

Kpac, with a pathetic download speed and a much faster upload speed you have a serious problem somewhere in the outside plant.  You didn't mention if your ISP is cable or DSL, but either way something is way wrong in their lines and your ISP needs to fix the problem.

Sorry...it's mobile broadband, worked on 3G and HSDPA link. The mast we're getting it from is only about 2.5-3 miles away. I'm nearly certain the masts are over-subscribed, so everyone on it suffers.

Mobile broadband is not your friend.

Thanks for the info! ;D

I couldn't care less what it costs 3 or the government to fix, the fact is we're not getting what we're paying for. The only solution I see is to erect another mast(s), which will obviously cost thousands so they're going to avoid it if at all possible.

Another problem I have is being used to 70Mbps fibre broadband in college... :(

And yet, you continue to do so.

Until now, when I decided to complain. Of course, we could take them to a small claims court and get them to re-pay us for every month of service it wasn't up to notch.

No question, you should get what speeds they advertise, but any kind of wireless service will never reach the speeds you can get with wireline services.  The faster the speed, the more bandwidth is required, and unless all the radio and TV stations are shut off you will never get the kind of bandwidth required for real wireless broadband service like you saw in college.  The bandwidth on fiber is only limited by what other services the ISP provides.

I know....it's so frustrating at times. Unfortunately it's the only service available where I live (apart from dialup).

How can your upload be faster than your download if the mast is too far away?
