In PowerShell:

Start-Process notepad -WaitBut that sometimes fails anyway. (But not with Notepad.)
Another idea is to try a pipe.

I tried out the vbs script as suggested by Squashman and it worked out nice and easy. My sincere thanks to him and to you all for the help  :)
