My UPS is not charging anymore
    « on: May 13, 2012, 07:32:49 AM »
I recently bought a new tower PC with a UPS as well. The UPS is not connected to any port. It only is connected to the power supply of the PC and monitor and my speakers. I wanted to test its capacity; so I first charged it completely and then discharged it completely. Since then the UPS has stopped charging at all. It does not give any backup at all, although the LED of charging is always on. What can I do? Please help.

You need to contact the vendor right away. It is still under warranty, -Right?

Geek has pointed you in the right direction. There could be many possible reasons why the UPS is malfunctioning. Not least of which is that you have no way of knowing how old the unit was when you bought it (could have been sitting on a shelf for a long while). Return it right away for an exchange or refund.truenorth

No it is out of warranty. Someone somewhere was suggesting that if I charge the UPS for 2 minutes and then switch it off and then repeat the process for about 20 times, it will start charging. The suggestion was for laptop battery. I tried a few times and it did not work out so far. Any other suggestions will be highly welcome.

If you recently bought it, why is it out of warranty?

I of course don't know for sure but i suspect that the term "recently" as used by David reflects a passage of time greater than many (including me) would have meant (unless we are talking a warranty of a very brief period --such as days). However from personal experience with UPS units they do have a rechargeable life span after which they cannot be recharged. There is the option to replace the battery component but again my experience is it is usually NOT cost effective as it can compare with the cost of a new unit.truenorth

Well, it is not recent. I still feel it is recent, but it is out of warranty.  ;D

I agree. The batteries a a large part pf the cost. And newer designs are often better.  An 800 watt unit is about $120.

I have replaced batteries in UPS several times.  Amazon.com is a good place to get good prices on them.
