    Wireless set up
    « on: September 19, 2012, 01:56:02 PM »
Hi there, I'm moving to university in the next few days, and I've been informed the halls I'm staying in come standard with a 10mb broadband connection via an Ethernet port, but some former students have informed me I can convert this to make it wireless. What would I need to buy to do this? A router? Or a wireless access point? Or do I need to do more than just plug one of those in?
    Thanks

Not a router.  A WAP will be sufficient, given that you have an ethernet port.  Many of these are pretty much plug and play - very easy to set up and use. Eg:

Personally, I would avoid the cheap and nasty option, but that might be adequate and within budget for student uses.  Plus, the chances are that someone else will already have done this in a nearby room and you might be able to share the access point and the cost.
