Firefox no longer works with some versions of Windows XP

Firefox 3.6.28 and Firefox 12 are the last versions of Firefox that will work with the original version of Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 1. They won't be updated with security and stability fixes. To keep your computer and personal information safe, we recommend that you upgrade for free to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and install the latest Firefox. This article goes over your upgrade options.
But the article is not dated.
Another solution is use Opera instead.

So, that means they will never fix it?   >:(

I don't think there is anything to "fix".

For the last two years, the latest versions of Firefox have not worked on Windows XP RTM, Windows XP SP1, and Windows XP SP1a. XP SP1a support was dropped because maintaining it meant using an old toolchain for everything.

Realistically, nobody running a 13-year old Operating System should be surprised when they cannot run the latest versions of software. Nor should they consider it a "bug" to be fixed that the software doesn't run on such systems. And in this case, it's not as if there is no upgrade path- realistically my question to those affected would be along the lines of why they are still running XP Gold or XP SP1 in the first place.

Thanks.
I have XP SP-3 with current updates. I have had trouble with Firefox losing my search sites settings. I want Google, but it gets switched over to Yahoo.
Right now I have version 36.0 and it is working good. Except it is hard to change the search site. Now it is stuck on Google and I will just leave it that way. To change it, I have to do four mouse clicks. Earlier versions would do it in one click

EDIT: Now in Windows 8.1 and I see what has happened.  Firefox now does not work the way it used to. So sad.  :(
EDIT again: OK Now I get it.  Another day or two I will be alright.
