    Hotmail account
    « on: July 17, 2016, 06:38:05 PM »
Quick question re hotmail.com account (now outlook)
Every email I get from the above account which is operated from Firefox, I get the following message.
"This member failed our fraud detection checks and may not be who they appear to be"

Good that it does that, but EVERY email, people I hear from every day?    How do I tone it down a little!!!

Some users have given up on this an went over to other providers, like Yahoo and Google. Still, MS has made some remarks about this problem.

I can't believe this started to happen in 2012 and still has not been resolved.

I dont like gmail, I don't know why they made hotmail and outlook account, it was working quite ok before.

I have a number of email accounts. Can't say that any is the best.  But one thing I try to do is use a local POP3 client to read my mail. Unfortunately, trying to send out email from a local client is a bother. Some kind of thing about SMTP and SSL protocol.

For what it is worth, a list of email services.

And you can always buy a web site and use the plain web-mail things. I have two web sites with my own private email servers. Nothing fancy.   :)

"This sender failed our fraud detection checks" is when the SPF record intended to validate that there is no E-mail spoofing fails. Basically the SPF record says "If you don't believe me, go ahead and Ask blah.com"; the "Fraud detection" message appears if, when Outlook reaches out to blah.com, it says "I've never heard of that user". So Outlook shows a warning, as that is a common tactic used to spoof E-mails by scammers.

It might not show the message if you add the recipients in question to the "Safe Senders" List in Settings (Gear icon in the upper right->Settings)

Geek, I have set up one private account on Microsoft Outlook.com.    I have tried getting gmail and hotmail on there, but run into trouble every time, so have had to resort to the browser, which I hate.

Will have another look at the options.   I did try thunderbird and did not like it.

BC_Programmer - when I clicked on the gear icon upper right - I did not have Settings????

        It is actually called "Options".

About a $1 per month. And you have to get a domain name.
I would sell space to you cheap, but the forum frowns on doing business on the forum.
Here are recommendations from Life hacker.

1&1 is good. So is GoDaddy.
