Windows updates say "never" and wont install
    « on: November 10, 2016, 06:39:06 AM »
I have no idea how it happened, but my windows updates do not show (for 2016) and when I try to download updates-it just looks like it is trying but never does who any progress.

Any suggestions on a work around for this?

I'd tried doing a system restore, but that did not work either.

    Windows 7
    Satellite L750-A7280
AMD A6-5200 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.00 GHz
    6 gb installed Ram
    64-bit system

Internet Explorer stops working often lately, and that is main reason I was trying to update, and figure out why.

    Thank you.

Was system restore completed with the media to bring the system back to new factory build just as you bought it ( or ) did you only use a restore point?

Do you have your system recovery media to install fresh?

Do you mean "fresh" as in reinstall the windows 7 itself?  that would wipe out everything I have on here right?
No, I don't have it but would not want to wipe everything out.

Was hoping someone knew how I could download updates perhaps onto a CD and then install them, if my computer won't allow direct from Microsoft.

Well you would backup your data first before wiping everything out, but yes a possible solution is to backup your important data to an external drive or cloud storage, and then reinstall the OS fresh clean install from the System Recovery Media that you may have to create yourself on DVD-R discs or 1 or 2 USB sticks using the media creator that came with the computer.

There is a "very manual process" of updating computers, but its a lot of work: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/323166

My suggestion is to backup your data which may not already be backed up or stored on cloud storage and go the route of a clean installation. Its a security risk if you decide to go forward with a crippled computer that wont take updates on its own. You will have to install each update one by one and if you dont stay up to date with them your system could be compromised. Additionally some updates have dependencies that they be installed following another update prior to it and if you get them out of order you can run into troubles.
