HP 832C printing sequence

Our HP 832C printed pages in "first page first" order with OS ME.  When installed on a new Gateway with OS XP it prints last page first.  It will print first page first if  preferences are set to "print last page first"  In other words, it prints opposite to the sequence selected.

Have removed the printer and drivers and reinstalled in accordance with HP's on line instructions with no change.  Did not substitute a new USB cable.

What did I miss?
