i'm having problems opening certain programs and opening installers for example i cant open skype, msconfig and various exe installers wont load. On the other hand media centre, internet explorer + others r all working fine.

Once double clicked the computer seems to try and load (in the task manager shows an influx of cpu usage) but then does nothing.

With an installer the security manager pops up and asks if i want to run it, then after clicking yes the computer does nothing.

This computer problem has only occured over the last couple of days. i have tried using the system restore but that doesnt seem to work.

Im using windows XP and i'm using a laptop

please help thank u!

What are you using for malware protection? Sounds like time for a scan.

Just do these online scans & save any log files generated

Online Virus Scan and Spyware Scan
