Computer Hope 1 1 1
« on: March 27, 2007, 02:00:06 PM »

Wow, it's been a rough ride, but it definitely looks as if the new forums are going. I'm sure it will not be smooth sailing for the next few days however I believe it couldn't be much worse than the previous few days. Please report any issue that is not already mentioned below on this post and we'll start working on setting everything else up.

Known issues that should be resolvable:

  • Member icons smaller than 65x65 are still getting stretched? - Believe fixed now.
  • missing last post icon - Should be just like YaBB was now. :)
  • Forum moderators haven't been setup - Done and still in the process.
  • Many don't like the emoticons - Smiles are now the original YaBB classics (set as forum default), can change in profile if you want to something different.
  • Look into create a option to read all posts in one page. - Should now be available
  • No link on bottom of page to go back to forums - Show be seen similar to how YaBB was at the bottom and top (no more tree view)
  • Report to moderator link not working - Works
  • Resized large posted images.
  • Missing separator that appeared between pinned posts and unpinned posts in the YaBB forums. - Unable to create a separator like YaBB but managed to change the background colors to make them easily distinguishable.
  • Increase grace time before posts are marked as modified? - Increased post edit wait time from 90 sec to 600.
  • Make the post page message box white. - Done, may change to alternate color however, white seems a little harsh.
  • Make the message section tab to the submit button after the message box instead of jumping to PM's - done
  • PHP Spell checker not installed on server so spell check doesn't work.
  • Need to finish work on FAQ wiki template - Done
  • Add/Fix language change options
  • Large images need to be resized - was theme issue
  • Large URL's need to be resized -- fixed with above css fix
  • Still lots of other visual changes that need to be done and can be done.

Reported issues unable to duplicate (mention it if you can):
  • Missing divider line between post and signature - No complaints after original.
  • Session verification failed - No complaints after original.

Known issues that have to be worked around:
  • Past polls (before conversion) have some issues, improper count. Also polls in this system don't support guest votes.
  • Some signatures apparently didn't survive conversion

On requests on the list:
  • Add spambot script mod
  • Add Skype and other options to available contacts - Link / Link
  • Add profile ability for users to say how experienced they are.
  • Is it possible for more than 15 posts in the review of messages?
  • Make quotes within quotes a different color.
  • Add folding@home link or icon in profile
  • On Quick reply add bold, italic, img, link buttons. Request

Wiki Template:

If implemented again need to fix these issues.

  • FAQ wiki still has numerous small issues such as folders/icons being same icon, posts with more than one page not being displayed, creator of document, etc. Example of problem doc:  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,25982.html
  • FAQ wiki template should have who originally created a post and see if can separate child boards from posts

Extra consideration and work.

Seriously, though, good job admin! I knew you could do it. ;)
I don't really care for the new emoticons, though, but other than that i like these forums!

I'll add it to the list, I'm sure something like that could be easily changed and thanks for the vote of confidence. :) oops sorry for using the emoticon.

PLEASE restore the avatars to the YaBB size. :)

EDIT:
Note the checked box -- you will want to check it yourself. :)

Done. Believe from what I see on YaBb that it was 65x65.

The first things that I noticed (and didn't like)....

There is no 'All' link to read multiple pages.

At the bottom of the screen there is no direct link to go back to 'All Forums' so now we have to use that dropdown menu.

The emoticons.

The look & feel of the new place, the old place felt sort of special (different) but now it's ho hum.

Give it some time to grow on me. :-\

Now I've found that after Dilbert posted that screenshot I have to scroll sideways to read the text messages.

That would happen on YaBB too. Sorry, I just used ImageBot to upload the clipboard, didn't bother to resize it. Let me do that...

On the old forum the oversized pics were contained in their own box with scrollbars but they didn't effect the post text.
Scrolling sideways to read a post just puts me off reading it all together.

That icon has a size of 45x59 so will be stretched to current setting. I'm not exactly sure what YaBB's default size was, just assumed it was what I set it to because the default image is that size. Well look into it some more.
