« on: March 31, 2007, 01:25:23 AM »

I've been experimenting with SMF packages and trying to get them to work properly before doing any of the mods that actually modify files. While doing this I installed some additional Avatars on the forum for anyone interested. Additional avatars are: FinalFantasy, SciFi, and TheSimpsons.

Avatars can be accessed under your profile under the Forum Profile Information section.

Looking good, although I'm using my own.
On a different topic, how big are the avatars allowed to be?
I don't think a size is specified anywhere.

Yeah 65 x 65, was YaBB's setting so figured might as roll it over to the new forums as that setting as well.

I have the impression SMF only accepts images the actual size of the avatar; it won't allow taking a much larger image and forcing it into a smaller displayed image, as often happened with the old forum.  If so, that's good; it prevents avatar bloat.

OK, I thought it was probably still 65x65 as everyone else's was, so I made mine that size too.
Just checking.

Let's see, Avatars, now thats the image symbols, to the upper left, along side the, "username" or the person logged in making the posts.

If that is so what happened to my little yellow chicken !! ??

If its gone forever, let me ask you this, . .

Can I post an image from, i.e. a modified, "scksht", as is posted in forum posts?

For example ; EXSQUZZEMMWAA!!! Seevooplay!! Montzseenurr, I shall only be a moment, . . .EMMWA !!

This IMG is being modified and will be reposted in this post in the immediate future,

About the size, . . I think it can be made smaller, but I don't know what it would look like?

And, . . I don't know how to eliminate the white background  ???

Your advice will be appreciated.

You're correct about the Avatar, it would be the image posted in your profile as well as on each of your posts under your name. I'm not sure about your yellow chicken or where it went to.

You're welcome to post any picture you want as your forum avatar as long as it's within the guidelines of the forum (no obscene or offensive images).

All images are resized to 65x65 in the case of your image it doesn't resize very well, but took a little time and cropped the image for you and made the background transparent. I did this using Adobe Photoshop.

Hey Rob,

Thanks, I got to reflect on this but it is a good start, . .

I'm signing off thinking about this and wondering about making miniscule more visible and think I have a solution.

Hey Man thats cool !! 8)

How'd U Do Dat ??

I have noticed you can click on this and it enlarges, I haven't gone to other Avatars to find out if I can get an enlargement to see it better, but is that the way it works ?

The Little chicken, I enabled it as my Avatar from choices when I first registered with computer hope, after the new forum changes it wasn't there any more and I went back to modifying my profile but I could not find it ?

Oh, well thanks for developing my skills and knowledge.  :D

Many programs have a transparency option, which will set a single color, in this case your white background to a transparent color. In the case of Adobe Photoshop you select the color or section you want transparent using the magic wand, then use the Magic eraser transparent option.

Of course this needs to be done in RGB mode, and when saved must be saved with transparency enabled. Sorry if I make this sound complicated. It's really not too bad, just a few clicks. It's very likely in other programs this is easier, I've just always done this in Photoshop.

This is how things have turned out with my logo, not exactly an Avatar, but I guess it could be used for one.

I thank all of the Computer Hope Guys and Gals for their unique talents and patients for helping !  ::)

Oh, and Rob hope that new job is just what you wanted, Good Luck !
