Usually no. It's normally safe and required to run your system efficiently. More here ...

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/lsass/

The file is usually located in the system32 folder C:\Windows\System32

However, malware can use the name of a legit process to cover itself. So ... are you having any trouble with your computer? Is your lsass.exe running from the wrong location? Or are you just asking out of curiosity (not a bad thing)?

I suggest you download Process Explorer from here...

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Install it and run it.

The program's window gives you much more information about the running processes than Task Manager.

If there are any suspicious running processes Process Explorer will try to identify them for you.

If you have any more doubts then post more information here and we'll do our best to help you understand what's going on.

Tou now have 3 threads currently going related to your infected machine. As everyone doesn't read every thread you can see how this would lead to multiple answers and alot of second guessing....
Do what was suggested in the other thread and let us know so we can assist.

check if is indeed Lsass.exe or if is isass.exe.  I have a string thread going on isass.exe and it is a virus.
