Ok here goes...
I have a Windows 98SE, 164 mb of RAM, about 10GB of space, 487mhz.(most of this information will probably be useless :P)Anyways, I have a DSL from verizon. I use a LAN cable to connect it via into my computer. Unfortunately, i caught a new trojan. So I reformatted the computer. A few days after re-installing my verizon account my connection lags. LAAAAAAGGGGGGS. I'm lucky this page loaded up it laged so much. It runs slower than my son's 56k. It ACTUALLY takes a minute to download a zip file! Im hopeless...

What type of Internet connection are you using and what is it connecting at? For example if you are using the modem to connect to the Internet is it showing the proper connection speed? It's also possible that your computer may not have the proper drivers for your modem installed. Verify that device manager has no errors or conflicts and try visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and make sure there are no errors.

Are you sure you don't have another trojan or virus or something? You can catch them pretty quick... be sure to run Windows Update. Is the rest of you computer normal speed?
Good luck!

sojourner. was your dsl connection working ok after you
formatted your H/D.
Your D/l speed should be perhaps 40 to 50 times faster
than a 56k modem depending on the ISP connection.
It sounds as if you still have bugs in your system. Also the new blended threat viruses are extremely nasty.
they can be imbedded in a web page and .......youv'e got it. The other possibility is that the bug has gotten into your memory.
Does your p/c boot up at the same speed as it did before the problems and shut down ok ?
I would be inclined to run some utilities like Ad-Aware ,
Pest Patrol or SpyBot. These programs will usually find and remove most of the bugs and speed up your p/c.
The other thing you may wish to consider is to install more ram......It's inexpensive and will increase the overall speed of your machine. 164mgs isnt a lot given the size of the programs we run in our p/cs.
If you want to check your D/L speed go to this site.....
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
it's free and will tell you exactly what your dowload speed is.
let us know how you make out. I'm sure there's someone here that can get you back running the way it was before.  By the way which trojan got into your machine?  Make sure your anti virus is current and if you
have all the latest updates from Micro Soft.......

Hope this was of some help,

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

When using some LAN, cable modem, and DSL connections, the more frequent pages loaded often overload the "cache" files. Try deleting these files from your computer. In Netscape go under "Preferences", and "Advanced", In IE go under "Tools" and "Internet Options."
Cache files are copies of previously viewed webpages that help loading when visiting the same site. This is helpful when using slower internet connection on analog modems, but are of no consequence on a high speed connection.
