hi my computer will not boot at all
XP sp2
p4
Mcafee virus scan fire wall etc its from comcast

I'll try to get it to boot in safe mode and all that will happen is a bunch of lines will appear with what seems to be directories

it will say disk partition(.)  etc......

It also will not boot from the cd, I basically can't get past the screen where you select what mode to boot in.  I do know that the hard drive is full so that might have done it?

How long did you wait for it to get fully into safemode ? ?
This can sometimes take up to 5 minutes if it hasn't been used recently or if there are HDD problems.
Interrupting it is not a good thing.

The lines of code are normal.

No.
There are a few options...
1) Remove the HDD and swap it into a known working machine...jumper it as a slave drive and backup/burn your valuable data to a CD/DVD.
2) Check to see how to enter Setup...instructions for your machine will be at the bottom of the screen saying F2 delete, F10 etc...
Re-boot and tap the appropiate key repeatedly while the machine is starting. Once in there go to Advanced Menu and set the boot order to CDRom as 1
HDD as 2
floppy as 3.
Press F10 to save changes and Exit.
Now when you have the XP CD in it should boot to the CD.

This is where it gets a bit tough but if you read the instructions thoroughly you should be able to boot successfully to XP with all your data and programs intact...

Repair Install of XP
I suggest reading it thru and printing out a reference copy for the procedure...

Best of Luck.
