I have an AMD K5/133 MHz with 16 MB of RAM and 400MB HDD.

When I decided to replace my Microsoft serial mouse with a Microsoft PS/2 mouse, I lost my mouse pointer in both Windows 3.1 and DOS...  :(

I tried to use a Logitech MouseMan (PS/2) and I had a mouse pointer in DOS but not in Windows.

So, I tried to load a mouse driver in autoexec.bat and config.sys, by adding a line.

By mistake, I added a wrong line in config.sys and the computer stops while booting.

I made a DOS Start-up disk but nothing...it doesn't boot at all!!!  :'(

Please help me!

What version of DOS?

...

So, I tried to load a mouse driver in autoexec.bat and config.sys, by adding a line.

By mistake, I added a wrong line in config.sys and the computer stops while booting.

Tell us what the text of the line is.    Exactly, if possible.

Since you seem to know which line it is,  one way to work around it is to skip that line during boot.

I found reference to how to do it here:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000318.htm       ,    it may be mentioned elsewhere on this site too.
Scroll down to:
"If you are running Windows 3.x or MS-DOS 6.x or below, boot the computer step-by-step to verify if a line in the autoexec.bat or config.sys is causing your issue. To do this, as the computer is booting......  "
and read that.

However,  that didn't seem just right to me.    Note that it has been a while since I've done it this way,  so I'm fuzzy on it, and need to look it up.
So,   I looked here too:
http://www.vfrazee.com/ms-dos/6.22/help/config.sys%20commands.htm  ,
and scroll down to,  "Bypassing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT commands".

Note that the   vfrazee.com  site mentions both F5 and F8,  and the difference in their use.

[ The main page there is: http://www.vfrazee.com/ms-dos/6.22/help/index.htm     and is quite handy.]

We need some more info from you.   :)

When it "doesn't boot at all" ,   what does it do?   What is happening?
Describe with detail.

How did you go about making the Dos boot disk?

What version of Dos is it supposed to be?

Any other info that you can think of, about anything mentioned so far,  just might be useful.   If you think of it, post it.    :)

I think it's version 6.22 but I'm not sure!

I also made the stupidness of setting the mouse driver line in config.sys as DEVICEHIGH=C:\mouse.com

A technician that I just talked with said that .com drivers should only be loaded in autoexec.bat ...

He told me to create a boot disk from WinXP, but it doesn't work!

The FDD seems to read the disk, but it isn't booting from it and continues from the HDD...

Can you send me a DOS startup disk (there are some programs that make startup disks) ?

http://www.bootdisk.com
Look around there,  and you can download what you need to make a boot floppy disk.
Instructions are there too.

And since you can now step through config.sys, line by line,     you've booted all ok, right?
Have you edited the line in which you said you know there is a mistake?

Also see:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000279.htm   ,  in particular the part about CMOS,  the order of boot devices.
What order are yours?

I finally fixed most of the problems!

I just unpluged the HDD and pluged it in another PC.
Then I used the notepad in WinXP to edit autoexec.bat and config.sys and now everything works fine...or almost fine  :-\

The only thing I need now is DOS drivers for Logitech MouseMan (M-CV46)...

I also don't know why some times the system recognizes the mouse in DOS and sometimes not...in Windows 3.1 I have no mouse :(

You didn't try booting and loading config.sys line by line?     That sure seems to be the easiest.

But -   however you got there,  I'm glad that you got it edited to suit.
