Today, while performing a scan with AVG I discoverd a virus called Obfuscated.ZQB

It was located in an age of empires folder that I downloaded from limewire ages ago..What is this ' virus '? and why has it only just been detected?

It is probably one of 3 things...
1.) A new virus that have infected your AoE folder.
2.) An old virus that have gone undetected by AVG till now.
3.) A false positive. (Sometimes antivirus software mistakenly detect legit files as bad.)

Considering that you've downloaded this from a p2p client there is a reasonable chance of it being a virus. I would identify what file AVG is detecting as infected and scan it over at VirusTotal. The site will scan the file with a whole range of different AV software. If several detects the file as malicious it probable is.

Not much found about that guy. Google returns just one entry.
It may be false-positive, as well.

It'd be good ides to get a second opinion.
Go here:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and scan your computer.

If nothing found, get HijackThis: http://majorgeeks.com/Trend_Micro_HijackThis_d5554.html
and post its log back here.

First of all, I can see, you're running TWO antivirus programs. This is NO-NO. Sooner, or later it'll cause a conflict.
Secondly, I don't see any firewall running. Do you have Windows firewall activated?

Now, I'll check the rest.

1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

2. Download, and install Spybot (if you don't have it) from here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

3. Close all windows, except for HJT.

4. Put a checkmark next to the following HJT entries:

- O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

- O16 - DPF: {85D1F3B2-2A21-11D7-97B9-0010DC2A6243} (SecureLogin class) - http://secure2.comned.com/signuptemplates/securelogin-devel.cab

5. Click on "Fix It" button.

6. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 key, when your computer starts)

7. Run Spybot (check for updates, first), and fix whatever it asks you to fix.

8. Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options, put a checkmark next to "Show hidden files, and folders".

9. Delete following files (if they still exist):

- nothing to remove

10. Turn off System Restore:

- Windows XP:
   1. Click Start.
   2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
   3. Click the System Restore tab.
   4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
   5. Click Apply.
   6.  When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
   7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista:
   1. Click Start.
   2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
   3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
   4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
   5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
   6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
   7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
   8. Click OK

11. Restart in Normal Mode.

12. Turn System Restore on.

13. Run HJT again, and post back its log back here.

Did you try on-line scan?
First of all, I can see, you're running TWO antivirus programs. This is NO-NO. Sooner, or later it'll cause a conflict.
Secondly, I don't see any firewall running. Do you have Windows firewall activated?

Hmm, a couple of weird things have happened since I did all the required steps...My computer kind of froze up and was completely unresponsive, I restarted and ran avg but it detected no threats. Also ive noticed recently that when I go to connect to the internet, sometimes it fails to connect and says the computer did not respond or the username/password is invalid on the domain, even though all the info is correct! :'( ???

I don't know what happened.
Basically, the only thing, we removed was:
- O16 - DPF: {85D1F3B2-2A21-11D7-97B9-0010DC2A6243} (SecureLogin class) - http://secure2.comned.com/signuptemplates/securelogin-devel.cab
which was identified as "Virus Construction Tool":
http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/encyclopedia?virusid=55423

Did you uninstall one of antivirus programs, or did you disable one? Which one?
As I said, running two of them will cause a conflict, so it may be a reason.
