What kind of update and are you using a DOS bootable floppy disc?

What OS is installed on your hard drive and what file system is installed?

Try CTRL+ALT+DEL

I don't get what you need to type in?
If it's commands needed to complete the firmware upgrade these should have been provided along with the upgrade. If not you will have to locate them, we can't tell you what they are since we don't know what dvd drive you've got and what upgrade you're applying.

Remove the CD and re-boot...hopefully you haven't hosed the OS.
Why a firmware update ? ?
Movies won't play perhaps ? ?

You still haven't answered this.
I don't get what you need to type in?
And, did the update complete successfully?

Is this the site you downloaded from?

If not, from what site did you download the update and the instructions you followed? (be precise so that we can investigate and if necessary run through the update on our hardware).

Are you running Windows XP (Home of Pro)?
What is your pc manufacturer and model?

There is no restart command for you to type. The update has completed, now you just need to either push the reset button on the front of the computer or use ctrl+alt+del. Make sure you remove any CDs or floppies you were using before restarting.

The C:\> you see is just a command prompt. There is nothing more for you to type if it says the firmware update completed.

How can you see the drive haven't been updated?

You're not updating the driver. You're updating the firmware. Windows driver doesn't change just because the firmware changed. The driver for operating the drive in Windows will remain the same after your firmware update.
