Also, when I was in the hospital, (I was really sick and the cleaning lady thought I was asleep, she cleaned my counter and MY bed railing with the exact same cloth she had just cleaned the bathroom with. AND THIS was in a hospital.

There are some hospitals here that would make even the strong of heart shudder in terror. But those are the cheap/free hospitals and I never go to them.

Compared to US standards, any hospital or is cheap here, but most are pretty nice and up to Western standards.

Sliced open left ankle: stitched, then cleaned and redressed daily. $20.
Dengue Fever: Two week hospital stay. About $400.
Broke right foot: Including everything (cast, x-rays, etc.) $125

Actually, most Thai hospitals, like I said, are really nice. They're incredibly clean, quiet, and comfortable. The Thai nurses have fantastic bedside manner and are really good at what they do.

However, Thai food preparation is a different story. This is what has put me in the hospital so many times here.

Oh yeah, they eat things a lot worse than fried chicken heads. How about stuffed pig intestine? Fried bugs? Even the boiled poop hole of some animals?

I forgot to mention I threw out my back in August. $20 for the initial doctor visit, then $10 per physical therapy treatment (once a week for 8 weeks).

There's a nice medical tourism trade here. I know several people who are here for that. One guy I know is here getting treated for cancer because he can't afford to pay for it in the US.

.... Most people have been shocked by the video because it hits close to home for just about anyone who has ever stayed at a hotel in the past.

NOT pleasant.

I cannot bring myself to ever get into a hotel bed without first stripping it and upending the mattress, and having a good look for myself.
I'll remake the bed - I don't mind.

It is the first thing I do.  I don't even like to bring my bags into the room before I do it.

I'd forgotten to look.   Just did.

They are right -  check the bed.    But for me,  I don't just have a look.   I mean it... I upend it.

Sad part is, there is nothing a hotel can do about preventing them.   They are carried in by guests, then multiply.   Nobody knows they are there until it is too late.
The only way for the hotel to prevent them, would be to prevent anyone from bringing them in - in other words,  to stop accepting guests.


I hope neither you nor anyone here ever gains any experience with them.

Yeah, I've had a run in with bed bugs before. I rented an apartment here... ohhh it's been a few years back now. Anyway, it already had the furniture in it, including the bed. After a few days of sleeping there, I developed little pink spots all over my skin. Couldn't figure out what it was until a friend at my office mentioned that it looked like it might be bed bugs. Had the matress checked and sure enough that's what it was. Apartment came in and took care of it, changed the mattress. Never had spots after that.

Hi Broni,  watched that video about hotel glasses...pretty gross.  I'm a Chef in real life & always bring bottled drinks whenever I stay at a hotel.  Always check the room for other peoples hair too!  Yuk!

Once had a room that when you flushed the toilet the bathroom sink would slowly fill up??
Changed that one pretty quik.

I am never traveling again.... And if I do, I am bringing my tent!

I would rather deal with the spiders and snakes, than deal with bed bugs, strange germs, and LET's NOT FORGET LICE!
