software downloads but won't open and there is no error message

and the newest problem, web sites will open initially, but once you put in username and password to connect they will not open, except for Myspace it is the only one that opens to my account. This is a problem since I pay most of my bills online and I can't even open them, or my hotmail, or bank accounts, etc. for the websites there is an error page saying I have no internet connection.

and this forum I can open, weird? or what?

Of all the websites you could open in your present situation, I'd call it lucky!

Do you have HijackThis installed?

I have to use Internet Explorer it is the only one that is opening
Mozilla is downloaded, and I prefer it, but it won't open
I do not have HijackThis installed, never heard of it, not to mention I have to redownload antivirus protection all over again...

I am looking for cheap and free downloads if you know of not into spending hundreds of dollars...thanks

Miraculously, the log is clean.
I said "miraculously", because there is no firewall, no antivirus, no Service Pack 2 installed.

Download, and install AVG free antivirus: http://free.grisoft.com/
Download, and install Comodo free firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Run Windows Updates to acquire Service Pack 2, and all other updates.

When done, post new HJT log.

You're trying to install, or download?
Did you get AVG, and Comodo, first? It's very important to be safe, while on the net.

If Micro$oft page is giving you problems, get SP2 from here: http://www.download.com/Downloaders-Guide-to-SP2/1200-2001_4-5127017.html

Well, I tried to download on the page you recommended and it will not download.

I also went to order a cd, but it took me to a page that says i have no internet connection again, and I do...

To ADD>>>>>I found a page that did download service pack, but now it says....

Setup could not verify integrity of the files needed for installation. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer.

WHERE is cryptographic service located???

What happens when you try?
Using IE? If so, try Firefox.

there is no error message, firefox still will not open, yes using IE only one that opens/
nothing happens it just sits on the same page, nothing pops up at all
check my previous post about getting it to download, and it is saying the cryptographic is not working, but it is on and running cuz i found it in the service tab when i went to msconfig

I can see SP2 got installed, but I can't see Comodo running, or your Windows firewall is on?

One thing at a time, please...
I can see SP2 got installed, but I can't see Comodo running, or your Windows firewall is on?

I am trying to, oops/sorry....I did download Comodo, hmmmm? I sent you that to see if I did get everything in that you told me to do...I thought maybe we needed to do that before we could do anything else....

If I installed any other Windows updates, I know I clicked on at least 4 times to get Windows SP2 to download...and the automatic update ... I did get A windows security update that works, I do not know if that was not in the first scan?? This is all confusing to me.

I am doing a virus scan now,  and I have 4 infections, Trojan Horse SpySheriff.D

So I am going to finish the AVG virus scan, then maybe we can get a bit further

The AVG says it healed the Trojans BTW

Take your time, install everything, bring your computer up to date, and post back, when you're ready. Tell me what was done.

I hope, this is the setting, which corrects it.
In IE, go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and in Security section uncheck "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid". Click OK. IE may prompt you to restart browser.

Wait a second...slow down. We have a lot of things unfinished.
Is Comodo installed, all Windows updates current?
Are you in a hurry to spend your money for some bill?

Good. The log is clean.

Download, and install CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Get "Slim" version.
Read CCleaner instruction here: http://www.jahewi.nl/ccleaner/ccleaner.html, and run CCleaner

Next problem would be not working Firefox. What happens? Please answer only after you run CCleaner.

I ran the CCleaner, I also read how to use it. thank you
Mozilla still doesn't open, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, just to clean up a glitch that could of happened, it still does not open. There is no error message, it goes into the hour glass effect on the mouse marker, and then you wait to see if it opens and nothing. I right clicked it and clicked the open, the run as, etc, and it still does not open. No error messages.

Try to reinstall Firefox one more time, but this time, follow instructions from here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox to uninstall it completely, restart computer, and install fresh copy.

Open HJT, and checkmark following entry:
- O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe
Click "Fix checked".

You have a lot of downloads to do.
SP2, and all other Windows upadates, AVG, Comodo. Get AVG, and Comodo, first, then SP2.
