Computer Hope 1 1 1
« on: April 01, 2008, 03:02:35 AM »

For the month of April we thought it would be interesting to see what client if any you're using to send and receive your Instant Messages. Because it's possible for users to have more than one Instant Messenger you'll also be able to vote for more than one option. Feel free to comment about why you feel your IM network is superior to other IM networks and/or why you're using the client you're using and what you like or don't like about it.

All past monthly polls and results can also be found on the Computer Hope poll page.

Apparently I'm the first one to post. Whee.
I use Microsoft Messenger for Mac, actually (it leaves a lot to be desired, but it's better than all of the other OS X MSN clients, IMO), and AIM for OS X (it's ugly, and looks straight out of Mac OS 9, but it works).
I prefer MSN over all other IM protocols, for various reasons. I.E. AIM still hasn't really implemented display pictures the way I'd like it to, and YIM is just.. well I don't care for it.

How about a "none" option? Or am I the only person who doesn't do IM (although I have at times in the past)?

I use MSN 7.5.
I had to edit the program because it kept wanting me to download Windows Live Messenger and if I clicked 'no', it wouldn't start itself.

I use MSN primarily for chatting.
I talk to my brother when he is in France over Skype (hes a slow typer.. but not as bad as some other people I know)

and I use Pidgin at school, since its lightweight, and better than msmsgs.exe that is on almost every Windows XP computer and happens to be the best way to IM in school without a portable application. (Just press the Windows Key + R, and type msmsgs.exe in Windows XP, and you've got Messenger)

I used to be a huge fan of Yahoo, but, lost interest in it as MSN started getting better features. I have used Trillian in the past (portably) but found Pidgin to be better. I also use GAIM as well (even though its outdated) which, is the old version of Pidgin.

I like Pidgin, have tried Trillian and Miranda but always come back to Pidgin.
Also use Google Talk for email notifications and Xfire for gaming.

I use Pidgin at work because it's the only one that has been converted to a Portable App and I can't install MSN Messenger.

I seldom use instant messaging but, when I do, I use Yahoo! Messenger, mainly because I already have it installed and use it for their PC-to-phone feature to make phone calls.

I use Pidgin, Skype, and when I'm on a machine that doesn't have either Windows Live Messenger and the web based version of gTalk.
