Internet not working on my PC

Hey

I am new here so sorry if i do anything wrong.

For the past few weeks my main computer's internet has been broken. I am connected to my wireless network, i have tried repairing the connection, disconnecting then reconnecting, i have made sure that my PC is accepted on the network but nothing works.

We tried my wi-fi adapter on my brothers computer and that didn't work so we threw it out and got a new one.

Again that does not work however it works on my brothers computer so there is obviously a problem with my
PC. My brother who usually fixes my computer has refused to help me this time leaving me on my own because i need to learn but before that he downloaded something like 'Windows XP SP3' but it is the wrong version or something.

Operating system:XP
No error message
Custom built computer
wirelss adapter: G+ mimo USB adapter
Have not downloaded or changed anything on my computer

Could you please help me and suggest why my internet is not working and how i could fix it?

i can see 2 potential problems

1. there is spyware/malware/grayware/viri

make sure that you run a antivirus scan.

i suggest using an online one like http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner  it requires IE  or Internet Explorer

also make sure that you have anti-spyware   the best programs are Spybot S&D which you can find at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

also i suggest that you use adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

get these from the internet or from your brother and then put them on your machine

First run Spybot S&D  let it install with no tea timer  update and run protection and see if that helps it cleans up abunch of nastys

then after that is done then install and run adaware and do the same things

2. the other problem is that the usb port that you plug your wifi card into  could be faulty  try a different port if you can
