forum policy prohibits any kind of password cracking, for any reason. You will need to reinstall Mac OS unless the password is given to you.

I don't mean to sound offensive, but we have no way of knowing that you're telling the truth. And even if you are telling the truth, it's still against forum policy to help anyone bypass system security measures. Sorry.
You may be able to find an old version of Mac OSX on ebay or craigslist.

Though we realize you are defiantly a valued member, and we are pretty much sure that you wouldn't be doing this for malicious reasons (we cant be 100% sure though), it would be a legal issue if we were to post this advice. Meaning, it would be illegal for ComputerHope to tell you, and illegal for ComputerHope to host the information about how you can do that.

(Sure, the chances of having the site raided is pretty slim, still, not a good thing to have)

Actually everyone, this is not a matter of "cracking" the password.  Mac OS's install disc (if you're on OS X) provides a password "reset" utility.

First you need to let us know what version of mac's OS your machine has.  I'm guessing your machine (since purchased at a church rummage sale) is a bit old, and may be running mac os classic.  If that's the case, the best option I can think of is reloading the operating system... hopefully the church gave you their install disc for that.
