Mouse dead?

Sorry if this posted somewhere else, hard to search, given that my mouse stopped working.

I doubt that it is the mouse that has the problem though.  Motherboard?, something else?

It suddendly started to slow down and be non-responsive, as if it were a cordless mouse and the batteries just died.  Only it's not cordless.

After it died, I tried rebooting, only the computer didn't want to reboot.  I tried again in safemode, and ended up having to reboot from there.  Now everything else works fine, but I never have had problems with rebooting my computer before.

Mouse is just a 3-button microsoft mouse.
