i think i unwittinlgly changed something in my BIOS trying to get my pc to boot after it froze . when i tried to get ireboot i hit the wrong thing somewhere and now alli get is NTLDR file missing. so, i posted a question about how to get  correct BIOS settings for my emachines T1840 and the reply said 'have you ckd to see if hdd-o is set right or ok ? i think they are referri ng to hard drive..which i think is ok since i can load winxp..just can't finish installation. sorry for the lack of info..thanks for any help :'(

HDD-0 refers to the order of the booting in your bios. harddrive zero  is the same as saying hard drive one, hdd-1 is really hdd-2 and so on,
on my machine, i have in my bios, boot order as follows,
first boot device:      HDD-0
second boot device: HDD-1
third boot device:     Floppy
4th boot device:       CDROM

so you might have changed the order of your boot order by mistake perhaps? does it say anything else in the error message you are getting?

To change something in BIOS you should enter in BIOS and change. Have you done that?
If not, than the problem is elsewhere. Your computer "frozen"... NTLDR missing, you need to repair your Windows XP. Do you have Windows XP cd?

viking is correct, ntldr is a problem within your operating system and not the bios.if you did change something in the bios, you can get into it and return it all to default settings.if you have the xp cd you may have to do a repair installor may need to do a complete format and reinstall
