Firefox will change color of the link, you clicked on already, and last clicked ring has a "focus ring" around it, but for me, sometimes it's hard to see, especially when I'm in a hurry.
Configuration Mania: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4420 Firefox add-on has a lot of tricks, but recently I discovered this one.
Let's say, I clicked on some link in Google, which opened in next tab. When I return to Google search, I can immediately see what link I clicked last time (thanks to Configuration Mania setting):

It helps a lot on boards with non-white background, like Computer Hope:

This very same setting will also higlight any dialog box, you're currently in, or any button, you just pressed.

If you like this idea, get Configuration Mania, and go Browser>Page Control>Highlight Focus to play with colors.

I'll give it a try.

EDIT: Nice.
