Trouble with installing from boot disk
    « on: August 21, 2008, 12:15:24 PM »
Am trying to help a friend with their UMAX laptop, model 312T, System Soft, Mobile Pro ver 1.01. Bios is 1.01.  They lost the boot disk so I downloaded programs for a Win95 and Win 98 to make a floppy boot disk.  However, I can only get to the a: prompt drive and don't know how to tell it to install the program from the floppy.  Keep getting the following error messages:

    invalid drive specification
    invalid directory
this program cannot be run in DOS mode
    bad command or file name

How do I get past these error messages so I can get the computer to boot from the floppy?

Update to the question regarding the UMAX laptop.  Found out that it has Millienium installed but still can't get past the a: prompt.  Downloaded an ME boot disk program so the computer would start up, but don't know the DOS commands to tell it to load the program.  Can't even get to the c: prompt either.  Can only see a: and b: prompts.  Is it even worth trying to fix?  I know it's an old laptop but thought it would be challenging in trying to get it going.

What exactly are you trying to do? Reinstall Windows?
