It can be done. The Windows Live Messenger download is actually not easy to find through search engines because they have replaced it with the Windows Live Essentials installer.

Essentials is supposed to install all of that and none are pre-checked which disqualifies it from the list.

I got the Windows Live Essentials installers.  That's why all the stuff was pre-check (it's the whole point).  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I just did a clean install on one of my computers. I downloaded Avast and during setup I was prompted to install Google Chrome.

Confirmed: http://blog.avast.com/2009/12/03/avast-and-google-chrome/, but was it pre-checked?

Update the list to state that AVG 9 too tries to install those toolbars.
