My desktop has a Philips SPC200. My laptop has a built in cam. I rarely use either. The desktop one is just for video calls to my family back in the USA.

I don't have any web com as of now. Intend to buy one probably within a week or so. It's difficult you know that without a web camp you won't be able to see who it is that you are chatting.

Well, I believe you could see them if they have a webcam and have it active in their IM software, but, of course, they won't be able to see you unless you have a webcam at your end.

I had a fairly nice HP at one time. I've have had a few over the years. I just used this one to take pictures of my guitars and to photo the odd things I sell on ebay. My computer is in my bedroom-at the foot of mine and my wife's bed. I woke up one night, decided to surf and found someone was logged into my camera!

That was creepy!

Anyway, THAT ended my love affair with web cams for the time being. I never told my wife about it. She'd freak. Not that I had an opportunity to perform any lewd acts in front of said cam!!! HARDY HAR  :-\

Interesting and well done post tonesage. So I've heard about this type of thing happening but always assumed it was mostly rumor. Out of curiosity how did you determine that someone logged into your computers camera? Is it possible that your wife just left it going?

I have a rather old Logitech QuickCam. I would have it on my main computer, but I can't find 64-bit drivers for the life of me. It is on my web server being a very basic webcam that updates a .jpg every 5 seconds.
