DRIVER FOR NEC CD-ROM

My computer has Windows 98. The hardware profile lists  the CD drive as a NEC CD-ROM:28D.     A MITSUMI CD ROM controller with double speed drive is shown as the driver, however, the driver is flagged in the hardware profile as being defective. The CD-ROM will not run a CD when installed;however the CD-ROM can be started by going through  "Start" "Run" D:\** . I cannot find a listing for this CD-ROM: 28D.  Can someone advise as to what driver is correct for this unit.
