My monitor is showing colored dollar signs when I turn it on...but they go away as the computer loads but then I have green/red/yellow rectangle bars across the screen.  Can someone help me with this?  Thanks so much.

Sounds like a damaged monitor?

Is this a Desktop computer or a Laptop?

When did this happen?

When you turn on the computer, is the first thing you see that 'gibberish'

sounds more like a graphics card problem to me. my old Rage Pro does it every few boot-ups- I always thought my K6-2's mobo was going, but I replaced the video card and the problem dissapeared.

it could also be a incompatible setting in the BIOS- AGP speed, aperture size, etc.

Remove the vid card and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser...
Use a can of compressed air to blow out the slot.
Re-assemble and re-boot.
If it still does it then the card is failing as BC alluded to...

Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish.
