For the month of March we thought it would be interesting to see how much total computer memory you have in the computer. Feel free to talk about how your system is performing with the memory it has, if you plan on upgrading, the history of computers you've used in the past and how much memory they've had in them, etc. This poll also supports multiple voting if you have more than one computer.

What do the options mean?

Because I didn't want to have an extensive list of every possible memory combination I've made a list that's comprised of options with greater than (>) and less than (<) values. If your computer had 1GB you'd select > 512 <= 1GB because you have more than 512 and equal to 1GB. If you had 1.5GB of memory you'd choose > 1GB <= 2GB because you have more than 1GB but less than 2GB. Hope that makes sense.

First to post! Whoo!

I have 2GB of RAM in my laptop...

My server has some weird amount in it... its around 360MB...

My evil iMac, soon to have ArchLinux for PPC on it, 129MB of RAM.

Step dads computer, 1GB
Dads computer, 512MB
Moms laptop (really my laptop) 256MB
Computers I deal with at school... mostly donated computers, anywhere from 100MB to 1GB.. I wish we could afford to just get rid of them all and replace them with one specific model of a higher quality, it would be easier to ghost them that way..

Grats on the first post Zylstra and good information. I thought it might be interesting for individuals such as yourself who have access to multiple computers to have the ability to vote more than once. So for those of you who have more than one computer with different memory totals you're welcome to submit more than one vote.

My family's PC has 1GB of RAM, my laptop has 2GB, my server has 2GB and my desktop has 4GB.
I have some other computers lying around, which aren't in service right now - they vary from 8MB to 1GB.
As for performance, my family's PC is fine for what they need it for, my laptop chugs along great when I use it, which is rare.  My server is performing just fine, but as the RAM is only PC133 I don't think 2GB is actually benefiting it.  4GB on my desktop is fine too, but when I do my new build later this year I'm going for more.

Vista laptop, 4GB (maxed out when I bought it)
XP desktop, 1GB (I think this is maxed out)


Old PC, 512MB (I kind of throw whatever OS I want on it... right now it has NT4, if memory serves; haven't really bothered with it since I got the laptop, however- Virtual PC runs almost any OS at 100% speed on the laptop, so I can test my programs & installers without resorting to going through arduous install/reinstall processes...

Toshiba Satellite 440CDX, 98SE 144MB (maxed out)

Thinkpad 755CDV Win31 and DOS 6, 8MB (maxes out at 40MB, but there is no way I'll find the module at a reasonable price these days!)


Vista Laptop runs the best of all of them, of course, being my only dual core machine likely being the main factor there. Runs everything, except a few games, faster then my desktop, which has the sole advantage of a separate graphics card (FX 5500)

1st computer ever (current family computer) 512mb really slow running xp got it in 01
my 1st build 1gb on xp was pretty fast
my upgraded build (new everything besides case which I modded hard drive and dvd drives) 2gb ram goes pretty good. I will b getting 4 though I dont see a need cause it never uses that much but Im shure it wil help

I am running my vistas home basic on 1gb but to me seem slow i am thinking of getting new desktop because i like online gaming so if any has wot i should go for would like to see what you all have to say please. I have looked at 2 so far 1 is intel dual core with 3gb 500gb SATA HD & nvidia 9800st graphs card or there is 1 has intel quad cord processor with 4gb with 500gd HD 9600 nvidia graphs card they is about Ł100 different in the price but i dont know anything bout the SATA HD  SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT FROM YOU GUYS ON HER
