Well if I deciphered your text correct. Sorry had hard time reading what you said above.  SATA (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/s/sata.htm) can be a great improvement in overall system performance, but it's the CPU you'd get more performance from if the one for 100 more has a quad core in it I'd go for that personally, I'd imagine that system would also be running SATA although may not mention it. quad for shure but thats only if you do a lot of multitasking. Games also only use 2 cores of a cpu not 4.  They will in the future though

This depends on the game.

Many games, even older ones, will use multiple cores, since their program was written to adjust itself automatically to however many cores you have.
Usually, they work in duplicate modes, so if you have a really weird tri-core (I've seen this before... when the motherboard cant support all four, so the manufacturer disables the last... weird) it would only use two...

Even in the case where a game only supports/uses a single core, the fact that background tasks and services can be alloted to other cores, while the one core is dedicated to the game means often performance can shoot up over 75-100%, depending on the number of background tasks running. This is compounded because the core the game is using will not need to make any expensive context switches to run other processes at all.

I forgot to mention my 2MB IBM, and my 8MB Gateway SOLO Series Laptop...

Poor old Cyril, who's most certainly on his last legs, has a whopping great 128MB of RAM on him. And he runs Windows XP well... as we speak, I've got five tabs open in IE7, 3 conversations going on in Windows Messenger (not WLM), and the caluclator open. And I can Photoshop images reasonably well in Photoshop 7. He's not due for an upgrade anytime soon, until I can afford New Laptop. That's his upgrade.

Mr. Vista on the other hand, has 1GB of RAM, and doesn't cope too well. I can have IE7 with the same sites, WLM with the same conversations and Outlook open as well, and he'll be ssslllooowww. Althought that could be because my Outlook.pst file is so huge. Must cut down on it's size... that mgiht make things happier. Although with a 1GB stick of DDR2 RAM being about $150 installed, that could fix him up too. I've seen Vista run better on a 2.0GHz C2D with 2GB RAM. That's his next upgrade, I think.

my old desktop 512mb+128mb, since it using ddr the price for upgrade seems higher that why i'm building a custom pc using ddr2 this year.
