Is it Isass.exe, or lsass.exe?
The first one is a bad file, the second is a legit file.

OK, so you're stuck at that error, or the boot goes on?
Same thing in Safe Mode?
Do you have Windows CD?

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?
Do you have Windows CD?

Yeah, it's important, because the above error may be caused by an infection. Legit lsass.exe file is often a target for viruses.

Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp, starting below this picture on page 1:

Right.

Put the CD into bad computer, and restart it.
At some point, you should see the message:
Press any key to boot from CD
Do so, and follow the rest of the instructions from my link.

Hello,
I'm having a very similar problem (let me know if I should make a new post about this).

My Windows XP won't boot and the box that pops up for me says: "lsass.exe unable to locate component" and then it says "...failed to start because LSASRV.dll not found.." which is followed by a blank screen where I only have the mouse pointer. This also occurs when I try to boot from safe mode.

I do have a Windows CD, but I'm not sure that my CD-ROM is working properly. What are the steps I should take with the Windows CD...and is there a way I can fix this without a CD?

Thanks!
