Hello folks,

I am doing IT at an office and they have an XP machine as a server and 2 laptops which map an S: drive to the DATA folder on the server.  Read/write no problem.  They log in with \\computer\user and synch the passwords on the client and server.

New laptop, I log in as \\computer\user with a password that I matched with the user on the server.  That same username from other computers can write to the S: drive, but it can only read from this new laptop.

Is there some setting specific to computers and not usernames?  This is a strange problem.  Thanks much!

Check the share and file-level permissions at the XP "server" end.  What error message do you see when trying to change a file?  Have you isolated one file and confirmed that you can change it from one laptop but not from the new one?  A methodical approach will definitely help to nail down the problem.
