Ive posted messages on this site previously regarding the problem of my computer frezzing at random points an eventually I decided it must be my graphics card. However, after taking it out, although the crashing seemed to become less frequent, it has started crashing again.
Whats the problem?

Try upgrading/reinstalling your graphics drivers by going to your video card manufacturer's website...

It cant be the graphics card that is causing the problem, as I have taken it out at the problem still persists.....
thanks for the quick response.

Well, its the drivers that cause the issues usually... It doesn't matter so muuch if you have the card in or not... The drivers are still there...

surely when I reformatted my hard drive, the driver that I downloaded would have been deleted, and the computer still was freezing. I am currently searching my computer for anything associated with the driver...

stephen johnson.....I dont remember your previous posts ......but first ........
What O/S are you using ?
Do you have all the suggested updates and patches ?
When is the last time you opened up your case and removed all the internal dust ?
Have you added any hardware which may be putting a strain on the power supply ?

let us know ,

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

ive got..
1.25ghz athlon processor
716mg Ram (somewhere in the 700s anyway)
14gb hard drive
126mb graphics card (ATI RADEON), which is in my computer but not installed or being used.
Windows XP, and I download all updates possible, which includes the new service packs.

I have tried downloading drivers for this 126mb graphics card, but the computer still freezes, so I decided to uninstall it.....

ok. Phew lol  Now... You uninstalled your video card drivers? You should have some kind of driver installed... If it didn't work, why not keep them?

I uninstalled the new graphics card and all the drivers associated with it up until the point at which every time I loaded windows it gave me the 'Found New Hardware' option. So the graphics card was still in the machine but not being used. However, despite this,  it has still been freezing...so just now I have taken it out of the machine and plugged my monitor into the video card that was already in the machine when i bought it....

After connecting my monitor to the original vga card that came with the computer, and completely removing the graphics card and all the drivers associated with it, the computer STILL freezes. Surely that now rules out that the problem is something to do with the graphics card, of which i originally thought was the problem.

Possibly a defective graphics card... A new one will not be very expensive... It's your call... We can try to help you solve the problem, or you can buy a new card...

Do you mean theres probably a problem with the inboard vga card? Because ive taken the graphics card out and the computer still freezes.
I bought the new graphics card (the one I have taken out) in January. It seemed fine at first, and I cant really remember how frequent to computer froze, but it became more and more common, and it definitely never happened before I had put it in. But the strange thing is, is that now I have taken it out it still freezes. I dont really want to buy a new card now, because surely the fact that it is still freezing means that there is nothing wrong with the one I have bought. There must be another problem somewhere in the computer......
