Many people cry but they built a ton of rock solid machines back in the day...
In my mind they did it right.

I remember one that they farmed out to India, it wasn't so great.  I think it was an Advantage 486sx
I got a great price on them, they were about $ 300 less.  I sold all 31 in about two weeks.  By the end of the month they were all going back to AST.  They were the first and only ones that I'd seen fail, well, except for old age.

Windows 3.X..running on an old AST Advantage machine, 486DX w/ turbo button..woo.  I remember using AmiPro (before Word), and paint was my only source of entertainment.  You had to tweak your config.sys file for memory adjustments.  Ever put an autoexec.bat command in the autoexec.bat file, then startup...lol.  Good times.

I think it did a bit. I don't think Doom ran properly on my 386 unless it was on. I don't really remember. It was 18 years ago at least.  :D

Actually they did help for a lot of older games when you needed to slow the system down so they didn't go what seemed like a million miles an hour.

Programmers would also use them to see how they would run on a slower computer.  If I remember right it either disabled the math co-processor or the cache.
