Well, it's not compatible with Vista, so I doubt it.

I've heard Acronis Disk director works with Vista. Can't say the same for windows 7, though.

What is it you are trying to accomplish here ? ?
Are you running Win7 as your only OS ?

I am running windows 7 and want to partition part of the hard drive as storage. Windows 7 is only been beta tested at the moment and I will have to keep reinstalling it. I want to use the storage part for the harddrive to save drivers... etc.

Why not just use Windows Disk Management for the task ? ?

Can I use this after windows has been installed? I looked to see if I could do it before I installed windows but the option was grayed out.

Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

Yes.  I believe this reference for Vista also applies to Windows 7.

Partition Wizzard claims to be Windows 7 Compatable. Acronis Disc Director also works with 7, but I've had trouble using it to increase the size of the system partition.

Actually I tried to make some changes with Disk Director with no success so I am now doing it with Easus Pro (which I forgot I have) and it seems to be working fine. It's going to be a lengthy process (shrinking 1 partition, moving 5 partitions, increasing free space on system partition) but I'll report back when it's (hopefully successfully) finished.

Oh - and where Acronis said it would need to boot 5 or 6 times during the process, Easus seems to be doing it all in one step!

Well, it took less time than I thought - just under an hour. The only minor glitch was that upon rebooting when exiting Easus, Windows went to the boot options screen and suggested booting to the repair options. I passed and told it to do a normal boot, which it did. I'm guessing Windows was confused by the fact some program had interrupted the normal boot process (which of course Easus has to do to manipulate the system partition) in the previous boot. Anyway, everything looks good :)

I recently installed Windows 7 RC on a 250GB HD and failed to plan partitions during installation, so all space was allocated to C.  I thought I would just use Windows Shrink Volume feature but it would only let me reduce C to about half the total drive space, apparently due to immovable files Windows placed near the middle of the drive during installation.

With EASEUS, I was able to reduce C to a much smaller size.  I had not used EASEUS before; looks like an app I'll be using again.

Hi,

It is late here and this is the kind of thing I like to think through for a while before acting. It's better - and easier - to do it right the first time than try to undo a goof later on. You sound like you are being (very sensibly) cautious, I'll throw some ideas out there to get you started. Someone else is likely to come along with some other ideas, but hopefully this will get you started. As we know Symantec has discontinued Norton Partition Magic 8.0. What’s worse, Partition Magic is only compatible with Windows 98/NT/2000/XP. In fatc, there are many Partition Magic alternatives for Windows 7: http://www.partition-magic-windows7.com/
