I am wondering whether or not I will be able to run ARMA 2 at decent graphics with fair fps (like 100 average?).
The system requirements for the game are as following: Minimum:
OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista Processor: Dual Core CPU (Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, Intel Core 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 3200+ or faster) Memory: 1 GB RAM Graphics: GPU (Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or faster) with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM Hard Drive: 10 GB free HDD space Recommended:
OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista Processor: Quad Core CPU or fast Dual Core CPU (Intel Core 2.8 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or faster) Memory: 2 GB RAM Graphics: Fast GPU (Nvidia Geforce 8800GT or ATI Radeon 4850 or faster) with Shader Model 3 and 512 or more MB VRAM Hard Drive: 10 GB free HDD space
I have an XPS laptop (which tends to overheat!) and my system is as following: Processors: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T 9500 @ 2,60GHz Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T 9500 @ 2,60GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX
Memory: 4GB RAM
I use Windows Vista 32 bit.

Your specs say yes but 100fps I'm not sure.

What happens when you overheat? What are you using? Does the computer just shutdown? Just before I answer the other question.

It doesn't shut down (although it has done that when I have completely, by accident, blocked the vent), it just doesn't perform as well. For example I lose some fps in Counter Strike: Source. The worst thing though is that it burns my thigh if I don't have anything in between other than my pants I actually have a big burn mark on my thigh in a pattern - looks really ugly

You do know that laptops need complete and no argument free spaces on the vents under your machine? The back vent is good that you keep it clear but have you not noticed why your legs are burning? These vents need to be kept clear at all costs that is ventilation. You do not place a laptop on any soft surface only hard straight surfaces that includes not your legs. There should be a warning to that effect on the underside of your machine. Its because your GPU is overheating. Have you bought the game and tried it?

Yeah, I know about the hard surfaces :p But that'd require me to use the computer in less desirable places :/ Anyway, I haven't bought the game. But I want to play it, and that's why I am asking here first whether or not I can run it at all, because the requirements for the game are quite high.

And your basic machine stats will stand up to those requirements. What would you like me to do buy a computer with the same specs as yours and try it? You have more than the minimum requirements I don't know what the problem is? We cannot judge the Fps on a game from your stats.
Sorry I don't mean to be unhelpful but your asking us to know the impossible. We can only work with the info given to us. We are not here to tell you your frame rate we are here to tell you if it will work. And yes it will. Judging a fps is something for you to do when you play the gane.
Yes it will work You have enough power to play the game
What else is there?
